Re: Approval… and remorse… lol

In my experience with my Synchrony Bank with Banana Republic (it has turned out to be a deceptively rewarding card) at the cashier I was told $1k, and when I got the card it had a $6k limit. Hope this helps! Smiley Happy

I called today, they bumped it to 8K.  Guess that makes me a little less remorseful.  Smiley Happy

Just out of curiosity, what made you decide that a store card like that was worth the HP?

I'm just being pretty picky and choosy with what I'll apply for and really use, so I am trying to get an idea of cases where a credit card from a particular store would be a good option (clothing stores, electronic stores, etc).

Either way, 8k would be nice for the utilization buffer! hehe

That is PRECISELY why I was remorseful... I blame the fact that I was 'easy pickings' from being beat down from shopping with 2 teenagers all day... lol  Unfortunately, almost everything my daughter picked up was NOT on sale, and with the 35% off from applying i acquiesced - and, IMMEDIATELY felt remorseful.  Honestly, in hindsight, I wouldn't have.  But, like I said - at least I got the Visa version (not the store card) and a decent limit.

This - but, it was actually 35% (20 for applying and 15 for using the card - so, not quite 35%, since the 15 comes off of the already reduced, by 20%, balance - but, still).

Those types of promos are on going tough... Since you say teenagers if it's a store you shop at regularly and pif then many of these store cards can't be beat by a regular rewards.
I use fast cash today plus rewards and did 2 transactions under $30 for $170-$190 purchase price... So nearly $400 for less than $60 with discounts, coupons and rewards stacked!!! (Banana republic)

Yeah, pretty sure that is the same promo for opening that I've seen forever - guess they just caught me at a 'weak moment' ... hahaha.  Shopping with teenagers will do that to you!

Yes, my girls like to shop there - so I think that I'll be able to make good use of the rewards.  Still... wasn't something I planned, so I was kicking myself afterward... but, what's done is done - guess I have to accept it now!  lol

15% is the base line promo. Anything additional is a store specific, market, or national promo. We've done 65% discounts for those opening cards many times. The 5% cash back rewards for every $100 spend makes the card worth it and that's not including all the cardholder only deals you get usually 25%-50% and up to triple reward points for 15% cash back for every $100. If you shop Gap brands a lot, you come out spending about 40% less a year than retail.

Every file isn't the same. Not everyone has to be as concerned about HP or utilization.

If it's a card you know you want and can use and especially if it has decent rewards, why not? HP only affects for 1 year, 2 years max.
Capital One Savor: $6,000; PenFed Power Cash Rewards: $3,500; Nordstrom Visa: $3,300; PenFed Gold: $2,500; Capital One: $2,500; Mission Lane: $2,500; Credit One: $2,000;
