I've always viewed AMEX card as the pinnacle of credit card ownership. I now know that there are other cards that are just as prestigious if not more, but growing up I always knew that a person whipping out a Green, Gold or Platinum AMEX that they had their credit life together! So I've always wanted one and figured it would be years before I got my score up into the mid to high 700s before I could even think about getting one of those cards.
Well for some crazy reason I googled for CC pre-qualifications and AMEX pre-qualify page appeared. I entered my info and the AMEX Gold Delta Skymiles card came back as a qualification. Now I've done AMEX pre-quals as well as countless other pre-quals more times than I can count and I've NEVER had not one card come back as me being qualified for it (not counting like Credit One Bank or other trash cards). So for anything to come back on the AMEX site was mindblowing.
I proceeded to click on the apply button, filled out the form and click submit, fulling thinking that there's no way that it would ACTUALLY go through...But it did!! I was so excited to be approved for it! It only gave me a 5K limit but I didn't even care about that. It was just the fact that I was approved at all.
Now I put "kinda" in my title because I don't consider the Gold Delta Rewards card to be a REAL AMEX card. Remember in my mind only those classic Green, Gold and Platinum charge cards count so I don't feel like I've "arrived" with AMEX until I'm sporting one of those bad boys in my wallet. That said I'm still happy to get what I have. Especially with a bankcard score 8 ranging of 664 EQ, 690 EX & 723 TU and a BK in 2013 on TU and EX.
