Back in with citi?

I piggy backed off of @jeffsters1's post about the Citi Dillards Mastercard. I had a recent charge-off with citi, pretty recently, like in 2021 . I mildly burnt citi (about 6k) with my double cash card, them due to my business going under. I did the prequalifiation fully expecting a denial, but it came back as pre-approved for $800 my smallest limit, but it seems as though they are willing to let me back in the door with them. I don't know if citi's co-branded cards have the same approval standards as are with citi's main credit cards, but I  accepted it anyways, it's a good place to start rebuilding my relationship with them. A win is a win as they say.

My credit score has improved greatly since then, low 500s to in the high 700s a few steps I took that probably helped. I opened up a checking account with them, sat about $1500 in it. Also, the charged-off citi account is no longer with citi, I attempted to settle with them recently, the account had been sold to a collection agency.  Anyways I just wanted to share my citi blacklist journey and the good news!

Re: Back in with citi?

I had a Macy's card included in BK7 and was recently pre-approved for the store card...$800 also. No dice on the AMEX version though. I also had another Citi co-branded card (AAdvantage) included in BK...around the same amount as yours was - $6K.

I did the Dillards one tonight for kicks and also got pre-approved for $800. Probably not going to take it though...I'm expecting the denial letter for the Mastercard version of this to say the same things it said for the Macy's AMEX.

The store cards do seem to be a way back in with them, though. For some DP's, I'm two years out from BK7 with scores in the 680's - they pulled EQ - at least here in CT. The limit they offered was higher than the one I had with them before BK (that was $300).

Cheers!

So you're not really back in with Citi. You burnt Citicard, not Citi Retail. They're two different arms of the same company and operate separately. They don't always communicate with each other (every now and then a closure will cascade across both arms), but I can guarantee that if you tried to get back in with Citicard (primary cards such as Strata, AA, Costco, etc) that you'd be denied. Citi Retail is far more lenient with their approvals process.
