CLI: Slow Sledding with Amex

AMEX hates me for past transgressions, but not enough to not do SOME business with me. They are wary of me, which is totally their right.

History:

I defaulted on an Amex card a million years ago. A relatively small amount (< $1000), I think. I did not ever re-pay them.

July 2018:           approved for BCE with $500 SL.

January 2019:    auto BCE CLI of $500.

January 2019:    requested 3X on BCE, denied, got 0.

January 2019:    applied for Amex Hilton: approved for $1000 SL.

June 2019:          requested 3x on Hilton: approved for $1000 CLI (2x).

December 2019: requested 3x on Hilton: approved for $2000 CLI (2x).

So Amex is slowly re-warming to me. Hopefully in 6 months I'll get this card to 8K, then 16K next December. Maybe pick up another card with a workable CL at some point. I consider them a lender worth being patient with.

Data Points:

SP CLI

750+ Fico scores

Limited spend of $50-100 per month; PiF.

Congratulations on getting back in.

I filed BK in 1976 and included AmX for what I'm sure was <$1K. But back then, it seemed like a huge financial loss. In March 2018, I applied and got the AmX ED, SL $15K. Requested a CLI in July 2018 and got an additional $10K. Then I reallocated $13.5K to my AmX Magnate.

I am providing this information because yes, AmX will give big CLIs; however, I believe the spend has to be there. I put thousands of dollars on my AmX ED during the first year. IMHO, spending only $50-100/month is not going to get you large CLIs because AmX will feel that the CLs you have fits your spend.

Just food for thought.

|| AmX Cash Magnet $40.5K || NFCU CashRewards $30K || Discover IT $24.7K || Macys $24.2K || NFCU CLOC $15K || NFCU Platinum $15K || CitiCostco $12.7K || Chase FU $12.7K || Apple Card $7K || BOA CashRewards $6K
