My husband had a prequalified offer online for the Platinum Preferred. No other offers listed. He has a capital one secured card.

He was approved:
17.99 apr
0 for 9 months
1% cash back
10,500 credit limit
TransUnion 715, Experian 660, Equifax 690 Fico 8.

He’ll probably close the secured card after he activates the new card.

Niiiiiiiice SL.........Congrats! Thought they were only giving out dinky limits on this card. Guess I was wrong. Does he have any other cards in his profile or was the secured card the only one?

That's a great starting limit for that card!

I would not close the secured card unless for some reason it just wont graduate to unsecured. If it does unsecure than you can just put it in your sock drawer while it thickens up your credit profile and helps stregthen AAoA long term. If you really wanna close the secured you can also (after it unsecures) just add the limit from the old cap1 card into your new platinum after the platinum has been opened for 6 months.

Of course if you really just want your security deposit back then yeah close the card.
