I Applied for a new card
Already have a secured platinum I've had for years.
They want a copy of my driver's license and a copy of my social security card.
Is that normal and why would they go through all that?
Must mean I'm approved, and they just want to make sure it's me

Is that usually a sign of approval?

They don't usually ask for this information at all, but they wouldn't ask it if they weren't intending to approve. It could be something as simple as a slight change in your information between the existing account and the new one. I once had two Amex accounts, one with L. Lastname and the other as Larry Lastname and Amex internally thought of them as two different people despite the same address, phone and SSN.
As mentioned just for verification purposes.
Congratulations.
Good luck to you, OP, and let us know what happens!

I'll keep you all updated for sure.
