A brief history on me:
- 835 credit score
- Low six-figure income
- 2% utilization
- Applied, and was approved, for one credit card two weeks ago. Before that, my last credit card app was 13 years ago.
I thought that I was a no-brainer for Chase. I have a mortgage with Chase, savings account, checking account, and the Freedom and Freedom Unlimited cards with them.
After doing some research between the American Express Platinum, Citi Prestige, and CSR cards, I decided to apply for the CSR. Went to my Chase account and the first offer was for the CSR. Submitted the app (quick and easy) and received the "30 day decision" message. I called the app status line and they said it was a security validation issue. After successful validation, they said I was automatically denied by the system for "too many applications in a short time."
I had asked for a CLI on both of my Freedom cards 2 weeks prior, but they never went through because of my credit freeze. The rep said they would "fall off" in 2 weeks if I did nothing, so I decided to not go forward with the CLI for either card. However, I did unfreeze my credit for this CSR app so it would not be an issue.
I used my innocent/friendly/polite voice the entire time, but the very rude customer service rep could not wait to get off of the phone with me. We ended the call and I tried the recon number. A very nice-sounding woman answered the phone and reviewed my app for 5-6 minutes. She told me that she was sending it to a senior analyst and that I would receive an acceptance package or denial letter in the mail in 1-2 weeks.
I'm not really sure what to think other than Chase is extremely strict when it comes to these types of things. I will not be disappointed if it gets denied, but it definitely is one of those things I won't forget. I'll keep you all updated.
Mod note: I've updated your subject to reflect your approval; feel free to change/edit if you would like. --UB
Hope it eventually works out in your favor.
UPDATE: It's been 3 days since I recon'd and the automated status line still says "2 weeks" so I think that's a good sign.
Does anyone know if my SL would have been higher if the automated application process worked versus recon? That's what is bumming me out right now.
I received the 30 day notice for a Chase Sapphire Preferred. Two day later recieved a call to verify it was me who applied. Was told during the call that i was approved with a 22400SL. I do not believe the manner in which it is approved effects the SL.

+1
If anything, going to an actual human might even be helpful.
My IHG application went to review, and was eventually approved with a $9k credit line at the lowest APR. On the other hand, my Chase Amazon Visa was auto-approved for $500 (also at the best APR). Others who applied for the Amazon Visa on the same day (during the roll-out) and had their applications go to review tended to do much better than I did.
Just my 2¢.
UPDATE: APPROVED!
$20,000 SL. I was hoping for something starting with a 3, but I'm not complaining. Chase remains my favorite bank.
Thanks for the information and support everyone!
Congrats on approval and monster SL , you sir have a nice scores !!!!!
