Congrats, and thanks for sharing your story. It's very encouraging to hear about people pushing for what they want and getting it!
Great pointers!
And just to add, if you have now paid off DCVR, they will likely be sending you 0% BT offers. I get them constantly.
@joltdude wrote:Know this sounds silly but have you ever tried for an APR reduction on your discover? can do it every 6 months after the intro period (can do it right after the intro offer ends btw).... Esp now since the cards been cleaned off with the BT... .... You want to see if there is an APR reduction offer on your account.. ... Id do it in chat.....
(This is definitely a time i prefer seeing the card with no balance or just a few charges, because if it was on a fuller card closer to its limit, they might try to give you the wrong type of APR reduction that you dont want... with it mostly empty.. asking for an apr reduction is saying... I didnt like the APR at all.. can you do better to get my buisness)....
Id tend to take the PERMANENT reduction if offered over the zero (to whittle it down)... even though oftentimes they will come back with a 0 offer or BT offer... you dont want to fall for it right now... .. since you already BT'ed a sizable balance once...
Thats apr bit high for a Disco card.....and cl a bit low with those scores...
Also how old is your Disco card? im thinking you still might be able to have some SP luving if youve had it for a few months or more...
Also you made the right choice between Diamond Pref and Simplicity... Can easily PC a Diamond into a DC or other card.... but not so with the Simplicity...
I've had Discover for 3 years. My scores were in the 620 range at the time. Discover gave me a temp reduction to 19.99 for 3 months last year. My plan is to get Disco to $0 balance, then call to ask for a rate reduction on the basis the card will be useless to me now that my credit has improved and I have cards with much lower APR. I tried a few times a year to get CLI, always denied until last month when they gave me $300. I missed the boat on the double dip since I didn't call the same day.
Thanks for the very useful input. I greatly appreciate the advice!
Follow up on the APR for Discovery. Called them and they lowered to 19.24. Still my second highest APR that's not a store card but better than 23.75!
Congrats

Congratulations...
(Know it wasn't the big prize you thought it would be. but you really did well )
Dont sock drawer the card... but give it some light use, where you preferably PIF monthly...
Try again in 6 months... =)
Still might be able to go for a CLI in a bit.. but thats separate.... APR requests are 6 months apart...
thats 4.51 (yes i miscalculated the math when i initially posted.. for some reason brain and keyboard didnt engage fully ) percentage points... quite a good showing for an APR reduction..esp if its permanent.. Discover only usually drops in smaller steps.. (usually 2% seems to be the default)
Im curious.. whose now your highest APR card that isnt a store card?
Im guessing it might be the paypal.. If thats the case.. dont think theres much you can do...

Thanks! I was very happy with the reduction. I plan to use it to take advantage of the rotating 5% bonus categories and PIF. They offered a temp reduction to 13.24 for 6 months and 3 months of 0% APR or the perm reduction.
You are absolutely correct on Paypal being my highest APR at 27.49. I called Synchrony and they said they review APR periodically but don't do manual requests. Amex is 17.99, USAA 17.65, and Citi is 13.24.
