I had 2 'baddies' on my cr: one was credit card settled for less than the amount due (Capital One) and another for an old hospital debt that just showed up (I'm disputing that one with an attorney's help). I also have two Capital One cards now with perfect payment history.
Well, after 3 goodwill letters to Capital one regarding the card settled for less than the amount due and no responses other than "we are reporting this accurately" I figured what the hell, I'm going to write to the CEO of Capital One. OMGosh, an assistant called me within a few days and said she would personally look into my issues - namely a cl increase and the removal of the baddie (originally the Capital One rep who called me to settle the account agreed to remove all negative credit references, but didn't). I explained all this to Mr.. Fairbanks Assistant and that now, I had 2 cards with them where my payment history was perfect. I was very vocal about the credit limit increase request online and all I was given was a lousy $100 on one of the cards.
The assistant called me back 4 business days later with this news - they would remove the "settled for less" baddie on my credit report AND give me an additional $900 on my credit limit increase to total a $1500 cl! Woo Hoo! This was about a month and a half ago.
Fast forward 30 days - I recently decided to apply for a BofA Visa card. I don't have any Visa's, just Master Cards. Got denied. Called a credit analyst who didn't even bother to look at my new report and still said no. I waited 10 minutes and called again and asked to speak to a senior credit analyst. I went over all my income, the removal of the settlement card baddie, my perfect payment history, and increased limits etc. and simply asked - what is it you guys are looking for? I have a perfect history. Pull my report again and see for yourself. He said since I was preselected for an offer, he would look at a few things and call me back. 20 minutes later - Viola! Approved for a Visa with a $2,000 limit!
I'm doing the happy dance! Merry Christmas Me!
One warning however - I joined Experians program for $17.95 a month which showed my scores in the 750 range which is why I was like a dog with a bone in calling BofA for a reconsider. When the sr analyst called me back he said my Experian score was NOT 755 but 699. So - I'm dumping Experian's program pronto because it's inaccurate (I think) or BofA's is inaccurate. 50 points is a big difference so Experian's numbers are off - or somebody's numbers are off. Anyone ever use Experian's program?
But the point of this is Don't Give Up!! It's taken me a lot of hard work and being ANAL about my credit to get this far. I still have the dam hospital collection thing (after 5 and a half years) but hopefully that can be resolved thru the attorney. In spite of that collection agency, I still got a new Visa with BofA. So hang in there, work it like a crazy person (I am) and things will pay off.
Happy dance....happy dance.....
Congrats
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.
Great work, Congrats
The score that you receive from Experian in their direct program is not a FICO score it is a FAKO. I used it to track how fast updates were reported to EX for a period of 2 yrs and I did cancel it this month after moving over to MPM with daily pulls for all 3. MPM's scores are also FAKOs but I can get the reporting info from all 3 at once in one place. If your interested you can get a bankcard from First Natl Bank of Omaha and they will provide a monthly EX FICO based on FICO 08 Bankcard model. Discover IT or Walmart will give you a TU FICO every month and DCU will give you an EQ FICO.
Nice job! I'll keep this in mind next app spree
I subscribe to Experian's CMS. It is a FAKO score. The only real FICO scores are on myfico.com. Other than that a few CC's offer monthly FICO scores for transunion only.... Discover, Barclay's and Wal Mart. The only other way to know for sure is a mortgage app. Banks all use bank enhanced scores so even they are not true FICO scores.

+1 THe Experian site is all FAKOs and only give you an idea of how your credit will be once reported but their numbers aren't accurate. Only use FAKOs for what's being reported on the credit report rather than the score. THe only place that's giving FICO scores exclusively online is MyFico.com that I know of at the moment
Congrats on your Recon Skillzzz
