Unfortunately he wouldn't be reaching that kind of spend. He was informed he could travel up to 6 times, which doesn't give him much projected spend amount. However, even then, I know he is not status chasing since he couldn't keep it anyway. I'll push him to get the Delta Platinum for sure. You guys have provided some awesome input, thank you!

Not the Delta Platinum. The AMEX Platinum charge card is what I would recommend as K said. The 5X MR points PLUS 5X SkyMiles add up quickly.

Re: Delta Reserve

I saw that. I was replying to the post previous. He still would like a Delta Amex card but is now truly considering the Platinum. I’ll keep you posted on his decision!

Re: Delta Reserve

Thanks for the thread, I've been thinking of getting a Delta Platinum for a bit now.

Hoping I can piggyback here with this question...is there a time in between cards you have to wait when applying at Amex for Delta cards?  I just got the Delta Gold about 10 days ago and am wanting to pick up a Delta Platinum Business while the Sign-Up Bonus is still pretty high (70k right now).  Is there a written/un-written rule about my chances of success for the second app for the Delta Platinum Business card?  I have a Lowe's Business Amex since 2015 (5k), a BCP only 6 monts old (3k), a Corporate Card that I don't pay and I don't think effects my relationship with them at all (I wonder about this actually...), and a 10 day old Delta Gold now (10k).  Always PIF.

(I'd be getting the Delta Platinum for companion pass and free checked bags, I live in Delta hub and fly them almost exclusively)

Thanks for any advice you can toss my way!

Re: Delta Reserve

@digitek there shouldn’t be a problem grabbing the business version so quickly after. Important to clarify that the Gold also comes with the free bag for you and a small army. Of course depending on how much you are flying, you may want to consider the Reserve to rack up elite status and make your journeys more comfortable in the SkyClub.

Re: Delta Reserve

No problem. Honestly I prefer to answer in public so others (including lurkers) can find it in a search, and of course for those times when I am wrong (it happens).

Re: Delta Reserve

The Platinum will offer the better return, for sure, however, I do love having my Delta Reserve for those cases that I do not fly First Class and want to use the SkyPriority security line.  I am constantly going out of DTW with the family and we fly Comfort+ so it's nice to just walk up to the front of the line.

Re: Delta Reserve

Hey guys, so a decision and an update. Because he will have no problems meeting the spend on either card, he went ahead and went for the Amex Platinum and the Delta Platinum. His scores when he checked were EQ 731 TU 745 EX 760. Amex Platinum was instant approval and his Delta Platinum needed verification that he was the one applying. Amex started his Delta Platinum at $15k SL so great for him. He is 100% certain he will keep the Delta Platinum, but still is not sure he wants to keep the regular Platinum. If he decides not to, he will transfer his MR points, but who knows, his love for the Platinum might definitely grow lol. Once again, I would love to thank you all for the input on this!

Re: Delta Reserve

Thanks for the update!  He'll certainly enjoy the first year and hopefully it will make those business trips a little easier.
