It’s taken me 3 separate tries, but I’m finally in with Discover. I applied in April 2017 with an EQ score of about 620, denied. Applied at the end of Jan 2018 with a preapproval and EQ score of 644 but it did show an APR of about 24%. I was denied and was given a reason of derogatory accounts. I did have an old chargeoff account. Fortunately there was no hard pull for the application. Sometime in Feb. 2018 the chargeoff account fell off my report and EQ score rose to 676. Wanted to apply but felt it was too soon. After my new Chase FU reported, score also dropped to 667. Today I was feeling adventurous and said what the hell, I’m gonna go for it.
Preapproval showed 0% for 14 months and a little better APR of 19%. I hit apply and heart was beating like crazy. Then got a technical difficulties page with a number to call and also had a live chat button, which I clicked on and the CSR apologized for the inconvenience and congratulated me on my new card with an SL of $9,500. Feels so good since I felt hopeless after the 2nd denial. Seems that Discover prefers applicants with no derogatory accounts. Can’t wait for that burgundy card.
