I've been lurking on here since before I opened my secured card... I've never had a credit card or any loans other than school loans. I've always had to pay deposits at the cell companies and I applied for a credit card twice.
I had no idea why these companies have a profile on me and what it meant to carry credit. I always just knew that I couldn't have it.
Literally every single day my credit history haunted me. I made a few mistakes too. Refused to pay a cellular giant because of shoddy service in my neighborhood, over drew a major bank with Netflix negligently without paying attention, owing them and then not being able to open a checking account for 3 years.
Fast forward, I have an ok stable job, opened a secured card and only charge $80 with bills per month.
I'm happy to contribute that being on your P's & Q's for 18 mos. with no inquiries, a few aging school loans and a secured card will net you a credit score to obtain means to build for more credit!
