First Big Boy CC of my life!

First time poster so im sure I'll do it wrong but here goes!

Just started caring about credit in November. Got my first checking account in 20 years specifically to open a secured card.

Capital One Secured 12/1/19

Discover It Secured 1/1/20

Those cards brought the Vantage scores to between 606 and 678. I still haven't received FICO scores yet.

Randomly check pre qualify sites for giggles. Nothing ever pops but last week Chase pre-qualified me for 3 cards! Freedom,CFU, and Slate.

I stared at the screen for days! Finally even though I knew it was dumb....applied.

Got the dreaded 30 day notice, followed the next day by the 7-10 day notice. DRATS!! However, MyFico forums taught me about this magical thing called the reconsideration line. Worked up the nerve to call. Pled my case mostly truthfully. (Parents struggled with debt their whole lives. Knew I wasn't responsible enough in my younger days, feel confident I can handle it now)

The lady took notes and said she would forward it to a supervisor. Received a call THE NEXT DAY pretty much verifying my phone number and OMG! THEY APPROVED MESmiley Wink

$600 SL which is incredible to me. Foot in the door at Chase after 3 months of a build! #Blessed I know!

Thank you for reading! Who knew a little credit card approval could make ya so happy Smiley Happy

Re: First Big Boy CC of my life!

@Romeo, I'm curious, how do you go 20 years without a checking account? Does your job do direct deposit? Did you ever pay bills online?

Fair question!! I have lived a very strange life. Ranged from being a professional poker player(not a rich one, a GRINDY one) to being homeless for a stretch. The last 5 years have been calm and I've just used my lady's checking for direct deposits and such.
