Re: First credit card application

Do you have any loans?

How about negatives on your CR?

Re: First credit card application

^^^ this, and also, for any negatives, how long ago did they occur and what’s the current status? That matters very much.

Re: First credit card application

Is this your very first card ever? If so, I would check prequalification pages first and see if anything pops up. Chances are you’ll need a secured card first. Discover and Citi have good ones (although I can’t vouch from personal experience).

Re: First credit card application

Agreed, i think getting a secured card first will likely help aquire the cards you want a little sooner.  As suggested try those prequals to see what's avilable, but keep in mind they're not a guarantee you'll be approved. However, IMO your scores seem a bit on the low side. So you'd probably need to stay with issuers that use Experian exclusively, as it's your highest.

Good Luck!

Re: First credit card application

I would personally hit up Capital One's preapproval page and see if anything comes up. It's a pull to all three bureaus if you actually apply, but the page is pretty accurate with the offers and they're relatively generous to thin files, I feel.

No experience with BB&T personally, but I've read their preapproval page is also fairly accurate.

Doesn't affect your credit to check either one, anyway.

Re: First credit card application

Congrats on the discover approval! With such a thin file, I wouldn't apply for anything else or you'd likely just end up with hard pulls and denials. Let your new card grow several months before applying for anything else.
