Hi, I have been dying to get into American Express because I was an authorized signer on my aunt's account for 10 years and my member since date was 1994; however, I have a bankruptcy from 06/2005. I apply faithfully once a year and I was reliably declined due to the bankruptcy every year in the past. Given that the bankruptcy will drop off later this year, smart money would've waited until June, but for some reason I couldn't help myself. I applied for the personal charge card and received an instant approval. Right after that I applied for the SPG AMEX and was approved, but only for $1,000. I'll take it gladly! I would have traded my $20k NCFU card and taken a $5 AMEX limit instead to get two cards with 20 years of history each!!! My average account age is 2.7 years
I couldn't be more excited about these two cards, and I owe it all to the folks on this site who selflessly go above and beyond to help others.
Part two - I currently have the Barclays Rewards Mastercard, so I applied for the Arrival. I initially received the note that it was under review and when I checked the preapproval site it was declined. I called the backdoor #, answered questions about my payment trends on the cash rewards card (like why I pay it off some months and not others, which really surprised me because I thought it would help for them to see a balance here and there which is occassionally why I paid a lesser amount than the full balance, but now I know better with them). After updating my income (again), he approved it for $5k.
While confirming the unbelievably low interest rate from DCU on a vehicle purchase and refinancing an existing vehicle (again, thanks to the community), I asked about credit cards and was told they could use the same inquiry. The representative asked what limit I wanted I said $10k (why I didn't say something larger I can't fathom), she placed me on hold for a couple of minutes and reported that it was approved and the interest rate was 11.25%. She also offered the 6 month balance transfer with no fees and said there are no cash advance fees (not that I would use that). I wonder what I really should have asked for... What are the best limits that DCU provides?
Discover declined - no success with recon. If I still want it I guess I'll have to try again in June when the bankruptcy falls off. Although I think my strategy will be to just focus on AMEX. I would like to open 2 more AMEX cards in June to help with average age. I'm thinking the Delta Skymiles. Any suggestions on the other one? Based on myfico. my scores should all be around the 740 range at that time, although that doesn't consider the impact of the new accounts I opened today, which will likely be painful...
Nice! Congratulations on the approvals and reclaimed history w/ AMEX!
Can't wait until I can get back with them later this year. Gardening to get those scores up ![]()
Keep both your credit and your body in top shape!
congrats

Congrats!
Congrats! An Amex approval feels really good!
I would like to open 2 more AMEX cards in June to help with average age.
HMM.. I didn't even think about that. They backdated by newly acquired ED to 1980. I think I'll wait a year or so and apply for the BCE.
Congrats! Those are some good credit cards!

Congrats! on the nice approvals!
Excellent mini spree, grats to all your success ![]()
Now, that's what I call a good credit day! Congrats!
