After some helpful encouragement from some members on another post I decided to take advantage of my eligibility for an NFCU account. Opened regular checking and share account, logged in on my PC, saw Cash Rewards under My Offers and applied. All within the past hour and a half. I did that thing where you cover your eyes and even told my SO "don't look at my screen!!!" LOL until I had the courage to look and saw it was approved at 17.24% and $1000 SL. That makes this my best card so far and I know from my reading here that it will grow as will future cards with them.
DPs (don't judge me please, I'm well aware how waiting a couple months could have helped me here
)
FICO 8 - EXP 664 EQ 656 TU ??? It was 634 when I got my scores update but after that I had a paid off balance report on TU finally (paid down one card from like 80% to 1%, has a monthly fee so can't show 0 balance on the darn thing) so I expect it was in range of the other two as of today...
Total utilization 35% - all 5 cards showing at least some balance with two of them around 80% util
No collections or other major derogs, one 30 day late from 20 months ago
No open loans but a positive paid closed one
AAoA on TU - 4 years 7 months
AoYA - 3 months
Inquiries - 3 on TU, 2 each on the others
Income under 30k, DTI 3%
The rep that set up my account was AWESOME, spent almost an hour on the phone with her and it just felt like talking with a friend.
What do you mean this is not a big win for many here? Getting in with Navy Fed, period, is a big win! Congrats on the approval! Its a very big deal!

Congrats!
If I may offer a suggestion now that you’re in with Navy - consider opening an SSL with them to get an installment loan reporting. You’d most likely see a score increase from doing so (pay it down to under 8.9% immediately for the max point increase).
+1
Great way to get a "credit mix" boost to your score if you have no other open loans reporting.
In another thread someone reported the loan amount and terms were:
$250-$500 - max 6 month term
$501-$1000 - max 12 month term
$1001-$1500 - max 18 month term
$1501-$2000 - max 24 month term
$2001-$3000 - max 36 month term
$3001+ - max 60 month term
I opened one for 60mo term back in November and score went up about 20 points.
Thank you everyone!!! And you're right, it is a big win for sure. I'm definitely considering an SSL, thank you for showing the terms there.
Oh yeah and as for an hour on the phone, I didn't even realize it had been that long until I ended the call and saw it on the phone screen. I hope I didn't make anyone think they should expect such a looooong call to set up an account. A good amount of that was us just being chatty Kathys while setting it all up which I was totally fine with since I have a bit of social anxiety and feel way better if the person on the other end of the phone is relatable and funny. And it took extra time as she was looking for how close a branch would be to me and also told me how many ATMs in my area, etc (side note, since no branch close to me she expedited my debit card for free) and then explaining in detail certain features on the app and situational stories where they really come in handy. It was really helpful.
Congrats on your approval. NFCU is awesome!
