I joined Navy Federal on March 27, by phone, first time member. I funded the maximum $250 initial deposit, with $50 to share account and $200 to checking.
One week later, on April 3, when I received my online login information, I decided to apply for one of their credit cards, and chose the Cash Rewards card. I didn't really think I'd be approved just now, and was prepared to ask them to use my credit pull for a secured card.
To my shock, I was instantly approved for a $5600 SL ( Visa Signature ). I would have been happy with $500 or $1000, and wasn't really expecting an approval at all, so you can imagine my shock at such a high limit. I'm very grateful, and I now understand why so many people love NFCU!
I'm 60, and this is my last chance at rebuilding credit. I've picked the right financial institution to do that, and I eventually plan to get 3 of their cards and use them for all future lending needs. I've opened a $1K share-secured installment loan with them, built up my savings account, and I've set up direct deposit from one client there, so they are my main bank now.
Some data points as of application date:
I will probably apply for my 2nd card in August or September.
Like I said, I'm totally surprised I was approved for that kind of SL with BK7, TU 621, self-employed, and only one other small limit card. But I will take it, and I'll take care of it.
I hope this info will help!
