I agree with you about that, I've also seen all of evidence of people with scores in the high 500s and low 600s score huge limits with Navy. It seems to me that they just like giving out higher limits in general. You mentioned that youre hoping Navy extends a bit more in your direction, what cards/limits have they extended to you so far?
I have the Plat $500, Cash Rewards $12500, and Amex $3800. Low income but though ive wasted more hps than id like they have treated me quite well. Allowed me to transfer limits so i could bt, have just lowered my CR to my second best apr at 11.40%, from 16.40%. Just a fsntastic CU unlike my experience with Penfed.
Congratulations on your approval!
There are many inspirational posts on these forums, this one in particular was perfectly timed as my son was 18 when we found this post, he had no score and a $300 secured Capital One Card and embarking on building his file. Your post served as a blueprint for him, he achieved a similar result. I want to add his DP's to this post to affirm the process as successful. Anyone with a young adult looking to get started with credit should feel confident going this route you laid out. Thanks for compiling your DP's and composing such an informative post.
I just applied for the updated More Rewards Amex card, and was approved for a $15,000 starting limit, with a 17.24% apr
Here's a bit of back ground, Navy Federal pulled transunion for this application. My transunion FICO score was 754 before the application.
My oldest credit card Capital One $300 Secured for 1 yr and 1 month, with a $650 limit
My 2nd credit card is an AMEX Cash Magnet with a 6 month history, with a $1000 limit. **did not opt for the amex 3x cli's
My 3rd credit card is a NFCU Cash Rewards with a 4 month history, with a $1000 limit. **Approved the day I became a member
The Capital One and Cash Magnet had a 0% utilization, and the NFCU Cash Rewards had around a $20 balance, so near zero.
The only other account I have is a 4 month old $500 secured loan with navy federal which is sitting at 8% utilization.
Because of this, my AAoA is only 8-9 months, which I thought may be a problem.
I also listed my income as $36,000 which seems to be on the lower end of most applicants, but it didn't seem to matter.
My son is now 19 years old and is off to a great start. All thanks to MyFICO forums and all the posts and DP's!
I just applied for the Go Rewards card, and was approved for a $15,000 starting limit, with a 17.24% apr
Here's a bit of back ground, Navy Federal pulled transunion for this application. My transunion FICO score was 719 before the application.
My oldest credit card Capital One $200 SL Secured for 8 months, with a $550 current limit
My 2nd credit card is an NFCU Cash Rewards with a 3 month history, with a $500 limit. (1 statement)
The NFCU Cash Rewards had a 0% utilization, and the Capital One had around a $70 balance, so near 13%.
***no SSL, no other accounts.
Because of this, my AAoA is only 6 months, which I thought may be a problem.
I also listed my income as $33,700 which seems to be on the lower end of most applicants, but it didn't seem to matter.
Hopefully, these instances help someone on the same path. All thanks to MyFICO forums and all the posts and DP's!
I'm glad that my post was able to help you and your son! I had no idea that anyone would use my experiences as a roadmap, but it's very flattering. If you or anyone else has any questions I'd be glad to elaborate.

Wow! That's incredible. That's a pretty huge limit considering her thin file, and it will surely give her a huge leg up when applying for other credit in the future. I wonder why your original comment was deleted. I'm glad that my post was able to help at least two people in that case!
