NFCU cashRewards. Approved!

I Decided to give it a whirl and app for NFCU Cash Rewards.

It was not an instant decision.  I apped at around 11:30 pm and was told it needed to go to review.  I wasn't concerned because I have seen many reports of needing to go to review and seeing spectacular results afterward.

3 hours later at 2:30 am I get a secured message:

Congratulations! Based on your creditworthiness, you have been approved for a cashRewards Visa credit card. Your new credit line will be $14,300.00. Your APR will be 15.15%.

They of course pulled TU and it is currently at 755 (08) with 6 inquiries at the time.  I wonder what I might have gotten when my TU was at 833.  I had 6 new accounts reporting in the last 4 months but in actuality 2 were not reporting yet so there were 8 new accounts.  Now I have 9 accounts and I truly don't feel the need to app for anything else at this point.  Growing what I have is the priority right now.

Re: NFCU cashRewards. Approved!

Congratulations!  I know NFCU is great and that their CCs will grow! That's a good SL/APR combo.  Probably the best feeling is being content with what you have and watching those cards grow up!

Re: NFCU cashRewards. Approved!

Thanks.

I just figured with no baddies and my current scores I would see at least a 20k limit and lower than a 12% APR based on the approvals I have been seeing.

Re: NFCU cashRewards. Approved!

Also, I figured that the card would be showing in my accounts by now.  I apped on Saturday and was approved Saturday.

I see people saying that they have it listed in their accounts the next day.  Given that I know it wouldn't show up on a Sunday I figured it would by today.

Patience....

the good news is that you will never be able to figure it out, so go see john wick or ride a bike or eat deli.  what is your oldest account, aaoa and do you have any loans?  how many other cards, when did you get them  and what is your high limit?  congrats, I think that is a great sl / %.  this is not chase where everything is instant, sometimes penfed and nfcu can take 24-48 hrs to appear.

I now have 9 new accounts since October 2016.  Previous to that I had no credit score available. I got 2 unsecured cards (Discover and Cap1 QS1) and one secured card (BOA) with toy limits in October and when I finally got scores in December I picked up my highest limit so far of a $5000 Citi Costco then a $4500 Chase Freedom and a $3000 Sam's MC.  Since then I have picked up an Amazon store card ($2700) which I would not have apped for if I knew that the Chase Amazon ($2500) would go to 5%.  But now I have both.  My 9th card is the NFCU cashRewards at $14,300.

My oldest account is a closed Discover AU at 14.1.  My AAoA was 2.0 and will be lower after this.  And no I have no loans right now.

I realize that this is pretty good only being 4-5 months into this process.  I had just hoped for a larger limit with NFCU to be a better crowbar.  But it still essentially tripled my highest limit.

@Anonymous you had me @ 9 new accounts since October 2016, you are lucky you got with them at all.  really.   want some totally free advice?  too late ha-ha

@this is a game of quality over quantity imo.  anyone can get a card with a low sl or a >% or both, does not take much.  The real juice comes from apping for a csr or similar and walking away with a $30K+ sl.  I have seen it play out again and again on this forum.  BBS said it best, don’t app until you are @ ~700 and really have a purpose for the card(s) you want to acquire.  I had some plumbing go sideways this am and grabbed a $21K csp to basically get $ 1155 worth of travel for later in the year.  Took < 30min out of my morning to drive to the branch.  After 2 pc’s I will have a csr @ 30 and a fu @ 11 which is nice but it took me far longer than just being in a position to get a great limit the first time around and the reason I have to take the long way is because I screwed up my credit.  There is a well know contributor on this forum that has ~12 cards and none have a cl of less than $25K and most are 30-40.   And they are all outstanding cards with purpose.  No stores cards, half are business, no ax in the bunch I don’t think.  Really stuck with me.  it’s your choice how you want to play the game.  Never be late.  Take care

I totally understand having a plan.  I am done apping for now.  My only regret right now is the Amazon store card.  The Chase Amazon went to 5% literally 6 days after I got the store card.  I was heated..  All of the rest have a purpose.  You likely missed my rebuild thread. I know how it feels to be on the top of the mountain and in the bowels of hell.  I am not going to mess up this second chance.  The person you mentioned with the whale limts had to start somewhere.  I am just over 4 months into this rebuild and think that i am doing ok.  Luckily I am batting 1.000 on approvals vs apps.

I hope to get half of where that individual is at.  If i had a time machine I would have gotten into NFCU when my TU was 833 in December.

Good you have a plan.  I did miss your thread; I try and stay off this forum because every time I visit I end up with a new idea that translates to getting a new card lol.  I had it all before and I am nearing the end of my rebuild at the end of this year.  9/14 I was in the mid 500s with a few debit cards until I got a $ 300 cap1 platinum.  My sig is my journey back from the abyss.  Sounds like we have something in common, we are never going to screw this up again because the road back is all uphill.
