CONGRATS !!!!!

I joined nfcu in may. they didnt ask me for proof of military service but i read a post somewhere where someone faked it and got caught a few months later and they closed all of their accounts. i think they have a way of cross checking with veterans records.

I wonder how they would check? Makes me wonder - maybe it is easier for them to check than us to prove otherwise.

I also wasn't asked to provide proof. My father was a Vietnam veteran but is deceased. I said that when I called to open the account and the rep didn't ask for any information, not even his name, just immediately started me on membership.

They asked me only a few questions like which branch and i think ss number, which at my time your ss number was your service number. i heard of other people joining on relatives records with no proof so i am sort of lost on that, maybe they relaxed their rules. i know years ago they only allowed membership to active military and then relaxed those rules.

Re: Navy Fed first card, huge SL!

Congrats, that a great SL.  My husband and I just called and became members too.  They didn't ask my details either.  My DH father (deceased) was in the Navy and it took us 2 years to get his discharge papers so that we could join. They didn't want his info. even when asked what info from his papers was needed.  They then asked if I wanted to join, so I said yes (odd they don't do joint memberships), so I guess my DH is sponsoring me?  Not sure how that works, but they knew only my DH has the military affiliation, not me.
