Out of the Garden...But The Approval Was Worth It!

So, a couple of weeks before my birthday (2/23), I got an invitation code to apply for the Capital One Quicksilver, and I debated whether or not I was gonna do it. I already had their unsecured Platinum card for 2 years, but I only had one CLI - from $300 to $500 in September 2017. It never grew above that, and I never missed a payment, nor was I ever late. And I've even snagged some pretty good cards in between. But Capital One never showed me love. So, I figured, maybe now they will. I said to myself, "To hell with it," and went for it.

It was not an instant approval. I began to wonder and panic about having wasted a hard pull. My scores dipped a bit because my balances increased on two of my cards, as I used them to pay for my upcoming visit to Toronto for the AAPOR Annual Conference in May, but I didn't time the cutting of my statements correctly, which I am usually pretty good at, and the high balances reported.

A couple of days later, I received an e-mail stating that I needed to submit proof of my identity and mailing address. I sent them a scanned copy of my passport, social security card, and electric bill at about 1 AM during a break from studying (thank goodness my printer has a scanner Smiley LOL). I got the confirmation that my docs were received and then I went to bed. While I was at work, I received another e-mail requesting the same information. I was confused as hell, so I called them to see if that e-mail was sent in error, or if there was something wrong with my documents (I reviewed them before I uploaded them, and they were crystal clear, so there should not have been any issues). The agent, who was really nice, confirmed that the documents were received, and that it will take about 3 weeks for the review of my application to be complete. I'm like, OK...

Fast forward to Monday, and I get this:

My card arrived today, but there was no information about the CL or anything. But, after I activated my card and this account appeared in the Capital One app, I found that I was approved for $2K. Not a lot (nor was I expecting a lot), but a good start! Smiley Very Happya
