Just approved for PENFED Power Cash Rewards Signature Visa - $5K SL!
Background: Had Chp 13 BK discharged on 8/6/17, and the public record finally fell off my last report (EQ) late last month. No other collections, negatives, etc. Joined PENFED back in October of 2017, and opened a savings account with the minimum of $5. Made a couple more small deposites, and had $100 in there at the end of June.
Made several apps over the following 18 months working under the assumption (from CF Forum threads) that they were a somewhat lenient lender. Three apps. three denials. Heard more recently that a minimum 650 FICO 9 (although that number seems to be somewhat nebulous) was needed before they would even blink, and no negatives allowed.
Apped one more time time on the 18th of this month and...VICTORY! Short delay (1-1/2 hours) while app was pending, but got the approval the same day (semi-instant?). Also opened a checking account to qualify for the bump up to 2% cash back, and was instantly offered an additional $500 overdraft line of credit.
Not too shabby. Now have $12k SL with BBVA, and a $3.5k SL with BofA (secured $500 VISA graduated six months ago with an automatic CLI to $3,500.00). Baby steps.
Congrats on your PenFed PCR approval! Excellent work with your credit rebuild!
Congrats!
Congratulations on your approval.
You might have confused PenFed for NFCU as far as lenient lender
Congrats!!!
#lenient lender though
Yeah. There were a lot of NFCU/PENFED threads a year or so ago. Which one was better, which one was easier, which one was more liberal with CLI's, etc. Pretty sure there was a time when PENFED was a bit looser with their purse strings, but as many threads point out, they are a CU and their underwriting can only be predicted with tea leaves and Ouija boards.
