QS CLI - 6 months on the dot

Hey gang!

Today marked 6 months since my last successful CLI on my QS (Went from $5k ---> $8k on July 19th). Today I only got a $750 bump to $8,750 when I asked for a new limit of $30k - but beggars can't be choosers.

I tried the luv button a week ago and was given the response of "Recent use of this account's existing credit line has been too low", so I honestly wasn't expecting to get an increase at all today.

A little background on the card:

Approved for QS back in '17 for $10k SL. I used the card quite a bit, as it was my best flat rate card at the time. CL was increased to $15k in '18.

In 2020 my CL was cut to $5k - I hadn't been running much spend through the card. Maybe a swipe or 2 a month since '19

In 2021 I put ~$500 - $1,000 through the card every month and kept getting the following reason for denial:

"A credit limit increase is currently not available upon request because Capital One is evaluating account activity at assigned credit limits."

I had a 0% APR for 6 month offer that I accepted in January 2022 and put a $3k purchase on the card, to pay down. I paid $500 a month between Jan '22 and July '22 - each month hitting the CLI request button and getting the same exact response quoted above. Finally increased to $8k in July '22.

Since my last increase, on July 19th, I've been putting ~$1k - $2k through the card (always PIF) and was only offered an additional $750 to my CL.

It could be a multitude of factors but based on my (2) most recent CLI approvals on my QS, it seems as though Cap 1 prefers to grant CLI's when one is carrying a balance substantial to ones credit line (even though they didn't make interest on that 0% APR balance)

Just some data points for anyone interested in trying to crack the code that is Cap 1 CLI's

Re: QS CLI - 6 months on the dot

Definitely appreciate all the DPs as I've tried similar approaches with similar results with the "A credit limit increase is currently not available upon request because Capital One is evaluating account activity at assigned credit limits." I'll try your latest approach and see how that works out, thanks, and Congratulations on your CLI!!
