Wells Fargo Propel Card Approved! What's next?

Greetings all,

I am fairly new to the credit world. By new, I mean I don't have a FICO score yet. I got approved for my first credit card in november of 2018. I had turned 18 in September of 2018 and I wanted to build up my credit score. I was approved for $300 line and I got my first tu/eq score of 670/670. In Janurary of 2019, I had a score of 672/672 and I went into Wells Fargo and applied for the Propel card. I got approved for a $2,000 limit.

I think I got approved because I have a checking account which is tied to my dad's account who has a lot of money with wells and has been with them for 40 years. However, the card was completely in my name. After getting reported, my scores jumped to 711/705. I ended up getting the 30k bonus in less than 2 months. Now I am at 713/707.

Once I get my fico score, I think I am going to go after another card to get ready for college (I am a senior in high school) Anybody have ideas? I want to stay away from the annual fee cards for now, but I am looking at the discover student card or the wells cash wise card.

Congrats on starting your credit journey well! Once you get your FICO scores, look nowhere than Discover and Amex! Both are friendly to thin and young files!

Re: Wells Fargo Propel Card Approved! What's next?

Awesome looking card and one of the best no AF cards out there! And it is METAL!!!

Good luck on your journey and if I were to offer my 2 cents...don't spend more then you can afford when it comes to getting sign up bonuses. Meaning don't go into unreasonable debt just for a couple hundred bucks.. anyways. Congratulations!

Cheers!

It’s very smart of you for establishing credit history at a young age. My only recommendation for you is to aim for Chase before anything else if you could because of their 5/24 rules (if you opened 5 new cards in 24 months, you’re out and the only option left is to wait). Congrats and good luck!

Re: Wells Fargo Propel Card Approved! What's next?

Congrats on the approval! I would look into Discover or AmEx. I would not look into Chase as of this time simply because you have a very thin file and Chase does not like thin files. They prefer someone with atleast 1 year of AAoA and some established history with other cards.

Re: Wells Fargo Propel Card Approved! What's next?

I’d recommend the freedom unlimited since it doesn’t come with an annual fee. I was approved for a chase credit with a thin credit profile so I’d say it’s possible or you can wait it out a little just to be sure. Anyway best of luck!
