approved for citi costco card with a very low starting credit line

Hi all,

I've been shopping at Costco a lot recently so I decided to apply for the Citi Costco card last night. It was a mixed blessing. I was approved instantly. But the credit line is only $1,200 lol. That is 10% of my average credit line on any of my other cards. Here are my data points.

My ficos are around 720.

I make $175,000 a year

I have one other citi card, the ATT card with a 6k credit limit. It is my lowest credit limit card.

My utilization across all cards is around 15% with no single card over that.

I had 5 inquiries on equifax when they pulled it

Any ideas why such a low credit limit? Any hints will be helpful. Thanks in advance!

First, congrats on your approval! Smiley Happy

Second, did you get the approval today? Have you tried to call for a possible Recon on the SL while it's still fresh?

Re: approved for citi costco card with a very low starting credit line

Citi is soooooooooooo weird.

I have been stuck with a $5K limit for years. Every time I try to get a CLI, they always say "you have the maximum amount of credit extended" on this card. Do we have your permission to do a hard pull?  Nah. I'm ok with the limit but it's lower than my other cards.

That is a low limit for that card. Hopefully (unlike me) you can get increases and have a higher limit soon.

The card is a good card. I do get a good rebate each year

It is good news that you are approved. With Citi co branded cards you can request a CLI at 31 days. I went through that too with one of my Citi co branded cards it is up to $25K now

Thanks for the post.

@Taurus22  I got the approval last night. I haven't called for a recon. I figured I would wait for the card to arrive.

@lgtwriter  If you want to try for the Recon, it's best not to wait....catch it while it's still being processed. Otherwise, too much time will have passed and they will definitely require an additonal HP.

Re: approved for citi costco card with a very low starting credit line

Congrats! It's a great card for the frequent Costco shopper/ cash back enthusiast.

i had a similar experience with Citi lately. Got approved for the Premier as well as the Custom Cash, especially on the premier there was a strangely low limit even compared to another citi card, but way lower than my average card. They're a strange animal. Similarly hoping for some significant CLI love soon
