Re: 2 months secured credit history: denied capital one, approved DISCOVER IT! CONFUSED.

Your missing my point. They give us a credit limit to go by, I did not go over my credit limit in fact I was about $1000.00+ away from it. They should at least wait & see if we are responsible enough to make the payments (of which I'm almost done), then take whatever actions necessary if we slip. I don't mind if they do what ever it is they do if I did something wrong. And that's another thing! Why give us credit limits we can't use or get close to. Do you work for them?

You can get close to them. In some cases, go over them. The issue you have is with FICO scoring, not Discover. I think you need to understand FICO a little better, particularly utilization scoring. Discover needs to report something the CRAs each month, so they report statement balance. They are reporting positives (on time payment). I don't want to derail this topic with a 3+ paragraph explanation on why Discover is not trying to hurt your score and how you can stop the drop yourself. I'm not trying to be mean and I do not work nor have I ever worked in a credit related position.

I was simply trying point out information that, while good advice, wasn't 100% accurate (The part about not being able to use the full CL if needed).

FICO Scores: EX 752 (3/13/13) || EQ 782 (10/4/13) || TU 724 (1/18/13)

I also thought they were joking, it must have cost them more to process, Smiley Very Happylol. But sadly they weren't, but at the end I can walk in there and buy what ever I want without feeling the pain for about 25 days. You dont want to owe them for too long. I think they have the highest interest rate out there.

My wife just got a job there and Macys will not give their staff the employee discount unless they use the Macy's credit card. That really seems horrible to me as it seems they.just want their staff to go onto debt and pay back the discount through interest. I refuse the buy anything there for that reason.

Sorry to hear that. Macy's is not a bad store, you just can't get carried away buying stuff there. They try to get you anyway they can. Take for example their Amex cards, the only way you can get one from them is if you spend 1,000 a year on the grey card & I think its 5 or 10,000 for the black card a yearSmiley Surprised!!! I may be able to do the $1,00 for the first 2 years, but after that they can have it back. Now, who the hell is going to spend $5 or $10,000 a year in the store? Perhaps if they would to sell groceries & rent me a space to sleep in. They do sell expensive furniture, but you only need to furnish your place once.  I have the Macy's Red Card $3,000 limit, but I will not commit to spending a certain amount for the privilege of a Macy's Amex.

My sincere apologies to those offended & Discover, But who ever the MODS are they must understand how hard it is to get a high score & for NO understandable reason have it dropped. I admit, Im one of those people who didnt know that we could only spend a certain amount of our credit limits. And I still dont know exacly what that amount is. Some say 10%, others say 25%. That really got me upset & havnt used Discover since. I still think it was wrong.

Re: 2 months secured credit history: denied capital one, approved DISCOVER IT! CONFUSED.

So I just received the card and it said my fico score was.not available from TU which baffles me. Plus credit karma didn't show an inquiry. How could they approve me without a score??
