Just as soon as you said that, I immediately upload the documents when my checking and savings got denied but yeah it took them about a week just to get back to me 😂 I got scared but I should have done it earlier, hopefully they approve me, I'm from California. If out of state applicants are restricted going forward, it was just announced that the US Bank Cash + Card will offer 5% back on utilities starting in April.
This is awesome news! It is missing a couple things from what Vantage West covers (they also count towards cable, water, and cell) but you could pick utilities and cell phones on the US Bank card and still cover most of the bills. And there don't seem to be nearly as many hoops to jump through to get the card. Thanks for sharing!!
I re-applied for the Vantage West savings account yesterday and uploaded as many supporting documents as I could think of, including a picture of myself holding my drivers license so they could see that I was the same guy. I still doubt they'll accept it, but I figured it was worth a shot. Now at least I know I can get the US Bank card when VW turns me down.

Wait, I don't get it. If you can't get it approved online then how would coming in person makes a difference? And wouldn't they need to have a AZ DL just to show that you live in AZ?
They didn't say that I was denied for being out of state, they just said they were not able to verify my identity. So they said to reapply, I would have to show up at a branch. But since I'm in Illinois, that is not likely to happen. I did consider how much it would cost to fly to Arizona for a day just to apply, and I could probably re-coup my flight cost in about a year's worth of utilities cash back.. but that may be getting a bit extreme on the cash back cards.
Thanks for the update about the US Bank Cash+ bringing back Utilities as one of the categories. I don't know why they left water off the list of utilities, though, that seems strange.
It is not worth the nerf, though, IMO, of losing bookstores (Amazon) as one of the categories. =(
Goodluck Boondocks, hope they hook you up

Agreed for me too, though the potentially new to US Banks folks here looking for another cash back opportunity will not have experienced the nerf.
It really does suck though. I imagine US Bank didn’t realize that everything from Amazon would code as bookstore nor did they imagine that the rewards chasers among us and other sites would run 🏃 with it.
As a Vantage West customer who lives in AZ, I should alert MyFico'ers to one quirk about VW credit cards which is annoying to me. Their statement cycle is the last day of the month, a consolidated statement for banking accounts, credit cards, etc. But for credit cards they report to the CRAs on the 5th of the month, reporting whatever your balance is that day, not the balance on the end of the month statement.
A while back I thought I was being clever by having an insurance bill that charges on the 3rd of the month charged to my VW Visa card, that way I'd have nearly a month to pay it & have a $0 report. My Visa statement was $0 at the end of the month, insurance bill showed as pending on the 3rd, cleared on the 4th, and on the 5th VW reported that as my balance.
