AMEX Auto Pay

I enrolled my PRG in auto pay, and have a question about the payments that will be made. I elected the "total new balance" option.

Say my statement closed with $1k on May 1st. I proceeded to submit a payment on that day for the full $1k. I then charged $500 before my auto pay date of May 15. What amount will be deducted for auto pay? $0?

It will be $0. But if you submit payment too close to due day, it will not adjust.
