I am about to send off a letter asking to have my Optima credit card backdated. I tried calling in to do it, but was told that this was not possible. Has anyone seen any luck with writing for this to happen?
Thank you.

I would try to call them again as I think it depends on the rep you talk with. I had the same card (Optima) and was told that it couldn't be backdated because my previous card was a Corporate account. I called back a month later and my card was backdated to my Corporate account (01). I got the feeling YMMV. Good Luck.
I believe DI has been succeeded recently in my memory ...
Reading the thread renewed my interested in this topic... I applied for and got an Amex Gold card ~14 months ago. I called to have my "member since" date backdated to 1995, since I was an AU on my parent's account and the trade-line was still being reported on my credit report, but the credit bureau unit representative at the time stated that I was unable to do so since it was not my account; I left the issue alone until today.
So I called the Amex credit bureau unit (number can be found in the backdoor thread) today and spoke with a representative. I explained that I had an account with Amex back in 1995 (which is true) and would like to backdate my account. He referred me to a customer care representative which asked me what the exact date on my credit report is (04/1995), put me on hold for a few minutes (again I am thinking that this is not going to happen), but comes back with a "we will have this processed for you and you will receive a new card within 9-12 days. The expiration date may be changed so be sure to update your new information with any other vendors... etc... "
I guess it's all about who you get and how you say it... Of course, I'm sure that they saw that I have spent almost $45,000 since receiving my card and I probably did not want to lose a customer... Just my thoughts...
Thank you for the update. This gives me the hope to keep trying.

Just checked my account this morning... I was trying to post a screenshot (minus any personal info), but couldn't figure it out... Amex has backdated my account to 1995! Let's see, that gives me an extra 16 years of age which will definitely increase my AAOA and AA.
Just curious, for those of you that have done this before, does this mean that Amex will let the CRAs know that the account was opened in 1995 versus 2010?

Perfect! I just wanted to make sure they will initiate the request./ update.
I sure hope they will report a longer payment history. The new account ding in score sucks.
To give an update, I sent off 2 letters last week requesting the account and Optima CC to be backdated, and I also called in this morning with the same request. I had no problem with it this morning, and the account specialist said my account showed a "member since" date of 2007 and my new credit card is in the mail reflecting the updated "member since" date.
Since my account is only 3 weeks old, it has not shown up on my credit reports. It seems AMEX lags behind a good month or so. What do you think the chances of it showing up with 4.5 years of perfect payments are? Or do I need to do something else to make this happen?
Thank you.
