AMEX CLI upon card activation?

Hello! I am new to the forum but have a question I believe is worthy of asking. I just applied for the American Express Everyday card and was approved instantly for $8,000. I was so excited about that approval that I went ahead and applied for the Blue Cash Everyday card and was approved instantly with a $2,000 limit. I wanted to ask for the 3x CLI on my blue cash card upon activation, is that possible?

I am 19 years old with scores between 721-750. $36,000 income.

I also have a car loan that I owe $15,000 on but paying off at a very fast pace.

Let me know your thoughts!

AmEx will not grant CLI for at least 90 days after your first application (EDC). Once you hit your 90 mark, you can request a CLI on either card. A denial will make you wait another 90 days.

That’s not quite right.  First, if they do make you wait, it’s 61 days not 90 after you setup your account before you can ask and get a CLI.  Second, while it’s not a common occurrence, there are plenty of people that have received a CLI upon account activation.  Really no harm in asking either because if you’re denied because you didn’t wait the 61 days, then all you have to do is ask again at or after the 61 days is up.

Welcome to the forums.  You should read the first few pages of this thread for more information. Additionally you might want to read thru the last 5-10 pages of the thread for up to date data points. Good luck.

Its possible to ask, but its unlikely to be granted.  Amex is not going to give credit limits of approx. 40 percent of your gross income; especially given your other financial obligation(s) and your likely young credit history.

Are these the only 2 amex cards you have. If so, I assume that the everyday is your first amex card. The first 3xcli can be requested after 61 days on either of the accounts. The next one would be after 181 days.

Re: AMEX CLI upon card activation.

OP - Unless you have another loan - I would not pay off the car at a fast pace. Having 3 revolvers and 1 loan help maximize your score. I would pay the car at it's normal rate and put the extra funds aside to help pay any other debt you have or put it aside as an emergency rainy day fund.

Scores - All bureaus 770 +
TCL - Est. $410K

Re: AMEX CLI upon card activation.

I read on the forum that it was possible so i tried for the CLI upon activation and I got the 7-10 day message.

Once the letter came in the Reason(s) for Our Decision was blank.

The key factors contributed to our evaluation: blank

So I don't know if i can try at 61 or will I have to wait 91 days.

Re: AMEX CLI upon card activation.

Try at 61 days. No harm in asking for 3X on the higher CL -- they will counter with max availability.

As I understand it, you can always shift CL later. Good luck.
