AMEX Luv Button Craziness

I opened a Clear in February 2011, backdated to 2000, with an initial limit of $5000. In May, I received a letter citing a "system error" as the reason for the credit limit and a notification they were going to CLD me to $2600.  Okay, fine, whatever.  On December 1, I called in a CLI request to bump back to $5000.  I didn't try for the full 3X for various reasons, and was happy to get the original limit back.

About a week later I applied for a Blue Cash Preferred over the phone and was approved with a $4500 limit.  I have since basically stopped using the Clear.

Today, when checking my account online, I now have an "Increase your Credit Limit" link on my Clear (which got a CLI in December).

Any reason it would show up now?  Is it that I *stopped* using the card?  I'm not going to try it, since it hasn't been 6 months since my last CLI; just curious.

EDIT: I do also now have an "Increase your Credit Limit" link for the Blue Cash Preferred, but it does not appear in the Recent Transactions section.

I don't know why the button appears or disappears, but if you are not using the clear I think you could move the CL over to your BCP and then close it out.

Re: AMEX Luv Button Craziness

I don't think AMEX will allow you to move over credit lines unless the card is more than 13 months old. I tried doing that recently and they told me the new the card law won't allow them to move from credit line on my BCE (obtained in August 2011), over to my Hilton card (obtained in December 2011). I was bummed because I have 15K on the BCE which I never use, and only 2K on my Hilton which is getting a ton of use. I have to go online and make more than one payment a month to stay under the limit. CSR told me apply for CLI on the Hilton after 60 days as there is nothing else I can do. I don't even want more credit. I just want the Hilton to have the higher limit.

You can't get a CLI from Amex if you have had one on any Amex tradeline in the previous 6 months. This rule applies for all tradelines with Amex -- not just the card that received the CLI.

Re: AMEX Luv Button Craziness

This is very common, I will hit recent transactions and it will be there, I will go back to my accounts page, and hit the recent transactions again and it will be gone, I did this like 10 times one day (just messing around) and every other time I did it it was there.

And is the same to this day.

Re: AMEX Luv Button Craziness

Just to note, my Blue account is only about 35 days old so I dont have this option yet but I have read much about it. Seems to be random.
