Re: AMEX Pre-qualified??

So is this a guaranteed preapproval?

It's a prequalification. I've seen a few denied after a prequal recently, most were on their core revolvers

I have no idea if personal card would help you get a corporate card, but seeing how it's work related, it might be worth a try, especially now that you've elaborated on why.

Give it a try, steady employment is certainly worth one HP.

Fingers crossed for you and and I hope to see approval thread for this card and corporate card soon

Re: AMEX Pre-qualified??

A number of people have been approved for Delta Gold at that score area, myself included, but it was almost always for a low $1000 SL. What the others stated above is correct - that score will most likely get you the card, but you’ll be borderline and will get a small SL.

The question above regarding when you’ll need the card is a good one. Can you ask your boss when they are looking to have you apply? Knowing that, you could get an idea how long you have to work on your scores. Scores aren’t the be-all-end-all for Amex, although the cobranded cards are accessible with fairly low scores, the charge cards with higher scores, and the core revolvers with similar or higher-yet scores than the charge cards. If you can make improvements in your EX score for a few months, rather than it taking a hit for a new inquiry/account, it may serve you better in your SL a few months from now, as well as in approval for your corporate card. The corporate cards tend to be charge cards, not cobranded airline cards, and you’ll need a better score to open that door.

Re: AMEX Pre-qualified??

I would wait.

You want a better CL and a better SUB. Amex Delta gold is handing out 60k-75k SUB like candies, 35k is a massive shortchange.

Re: AMEX Pre-qualified??

So I went back through the pre-qualification and I clicked apply. I got the rates 17.99% to 26.99%. So I'm going to your advice and wait before applying. That will also mean I will be for applying for a promotion.

Re: AMEX Pre-qualified??

I would wait too, if I had a choice.
The real question (for me, at least) is if this card would increase the chance for corporate card approval. If the answer to that is no, this app should not happen.
If it's likely to help and preserve her career, the answer would be yes. Even if approval terms are less than stellar.

Re: AMEX Pre-qualified??

@Harmony12, that card was approved 11/15/2018 at $1000 and still sits at $1000 today. This I’m sure is at least in part due to the fact that I just squeaked in scorewise.

Re: AMEX Pre-qualified??

As for whether this card will help you get the corp card, it’s hard to say. Will it help you get other, better personal cards? Yes. I’m an example of that. Got DG and the base Hilton card with one HP at around 638EX. Got Hilton Ascend on 3/3/2019 with a 640ish EX. Picked up BCP and Gold charge with roughly 658EX. My prior cobranded Amex cards definitely paved the way for BCP and Gold. I’ve not heard of someone cold-apping a core revolver with a 658 and getting it. Conventional wisdom says 680 min with an otherwise optimal profile (historically speaking) but 700 is a better bet. Amex May have relaxed some UW standards, but I don’t think I’d have had a prayer of Gold or BCP approval with that score without my cobranded cards.

Whether this translates to better approval odds of a corporate card, I couldn’t guess. On the personal side though, I’d say absolutely.
