AMEX SL 10,000 (3XCLI) YAY OR NAY?

Hello everyone!

I am approaching my 60/61 days with Amex in about 3 or 4 days.  I've heard all of the wonderful stories about the 3x CLI but I have a few questions.

If I applied for the 3x CLI with a $10,000 would that seem...idk, greedy?  I mean honestly, I don't need it.  $15,000 would do just fine.

However, is requesting a 3X CLI at 60/61 days one of those things where if you don't use it, you LOSE IT?

If your income is more than 30k I say go for it. Gmood1 style, no fear lol. Worse that happens they say no or counter.

If you're at 61 days with Am Ex (first card), I'd shoot for 20k.  Depends on your profile, of course.  That's a great starting limit, worse thing they will do is counter-offer you.  Then, in 180 days, hit them for 30k!

Request the $30k.  I did exactly that, going from $10k to $30k at Day 64 on my BCE.  It was/is my first and only Amex card.  The fact that you were given a $10k SL shows that they like your profile, so assuming your profile is the same or better now than it was 60+ days ago I see no reason you wouldn't get the 3X CLI.  As others have said, if your income doesn't support the $30k limit, they'll approve you for $25k or $20k etc. whatever number suits your profile.

Go for the $30k and at a later date if you want to CLD the limit you are more than welcome to.  Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I would go for the full $30k and let them offer less if that's what they determine for you. Don't be surprised if you get a 4506-T request though. Ymmv.

It's not often that Amex hits anyone with IV so long as their requested limit in going for the 3X CLI isn't $35k+.

I would go for whatever you feel comfortable with.  $30,000 is a fairly standard Amex credit line for a lot of people around here.  There certainly wouldn't be any adverse action for asking them.  If your income and profile support it (the latter sounds like it does with a $10k starting line), it's likely yours for the taking.

Right on with KiB above.

I feel like with Amex SLs, it's all relative when it comes to the 3X CLI.

If your SL is $1k for example, you're 3X CLI only takes you to $3k... not a huge CLI which probably makes sense considering the $1k SL is indicative of a weaker credit file and/or lower income, etc.  Conversely, a $10k SL says good things about your profile, so the 3X CLI to $30k is completely reasonable.

I always say that regardless of SL with Amex, a 3X CLI so long as your profile is equal to or greater than it was when you were approved is a very likely result.

The 61 day is just to give AMEX a chance to have another SP from your credit file. That has to be already completed when the CLI is requested. Said a different way, whatever the last SP AMEX did, that is used for the latest CLI analysis.

So it is definitely NOT use it or lose it. If anything, the longer you wait, the more history you have with AMEX, the more likely a CLI request will be given, and the less likely a 4506-T will be required, although those are only tendencies.
