Curious as to if the TrueEarnings Costco Card was anyone else's first AMEX card and if so, has anyone successfully obtained a new AMEX card with the original MSD?
I have been eyeing the TrueEarnings card for quite some time, just got the Discover IT in October, Sallie Mae World MasterCard in November, and have been anticipating applying for this in December. For me, it's a win-win because I'd like the 2-in-1 deal where I could carry an Amex and also have it be my Costco membership card. I just confirmed via online chat with a rep yesterday there that even should the relationship end, I would have the ability to backdate since this would be first Amex card. Even though I saved the chat, I'm cautious and aware not all reps may know for certain.
This is a unique situation since I have heard only cards issued by Centurion Bank would have this backdating ability. For instance, the EveryDay and BCE card clearly state in the Terms & Conditions that they are both issued by American Express Centurion Bank, whereas the TrueEarnings card states issued by American Express Bank, FSB. Anyone have any idea? I am well aware this card could become an "ice scraper" in the near future given the fallout in Canada, but if I'd have the ability to backdate with this, I'd honestly rather grab it as opposed to the EveryDay or BCE at this time.

There is definitely an MSD with this card. anything you get from AmEx's website (outside of prepaid) will have MSD. And if you close the card the week you get it, and get a new amex in 20 years, your MSD will be 2014
TE is issued by Centurion Bank and it set your MSD.

If I add myself as AU to moms TE in December and open my own card in 2015, will I have MSD of 2014?
Yes

Thanks for the reply. What if I add myself and remove the same day?
I wouldn't advise that. Why not stay as an AU until you have your own account, and then be removed?
I have a related question. My mother added me as an authorized user to her Amex, which she opened in 1991. She closed it in 2008 in good standing. It still shows up on my credit report. If I get an Amex card before it falls off in 2018, will it show a date of 1991?
If open date on your CR is 1991 yes, that's is your MSD now as well.
When you open the account you may have to have them research your member since date, give them your mothers data as well. Do not ask for back dating, it's member since date. You can find you MSD on the new account when you set up your online account it will be displayed. So you should find out quickly and be able to correct just as fast!

It doesn't need to be on your report for AmEx to verify. They have their own records. They don't need to refer to credit reports.
Current policy is to backdate to the AU's MSD and not the original cardholder's.
