Mine did not have a $ amount. You can call and generally someone can override the 14 days and approve you. My initial card was denied I called and got a nice lady that approved me.
update....just got the approval email. Seemed weird that they gave me a pretty firm offer, then got the 14 day message.
Good to know about the "Apply" button trick. I too had been trying to figure out how to find prequalified offers.

There's always the possibility that you can be denied. Pre-approvals are based on soft pulls of your credit report. And if some factor has negatively affected your report since the last soft pull you can be denied. No lender will give you a 100% guarantee of approval without doing a hard pull; but Amex is as close as it will get.
Great info throughout, MaizeandBlue.

Congrats!!
Did they soft pull? What is your Experian score?
The Amex site is showing it as 804, not sure what it is now after a couple of Apps, but the Experian site shows 801.
I'm not sure if it was a HP or SP, I'll try to post back in a few days if my profile updates.
Amex is usually a soft pull for existing members when applying for a pre-approved card.
I have been pre-approved on all my recent AMEX cards (5-6) and have never had an issue getting approved. Always has been instant approval.
I recently won approval for my third and fourth AMEX cards (Platinum and SPG Luxury). Both pre-approved due to my accounts with AMEX and both instantly approved on SP only!
In my experience, you can take AMEX pre-approvals to the bank (literally)!
