Greetings everyone!

I'm unsure if this is the correct forum, but I wanted some feedback from people who were part of the big Amex clawback. I had all my cards cancelled and have since applied for another card with them which resulted in an instant review then denial. Has anybody had any luck on opening new cards after that? Should I expect that I am indefinitely banned from new Amex accounts?

Cheers

Just to be clear...we're talking about self-referrals?

The old test for whether someone was on the blacklist was to see if they pulled a credit report. Blacklisted applicants would not have their credit pulled. I'm not sure if it's still a reliable test.

Yup, self referrals. Hmm since I had accounts with them, it was a soft-pull so I wouldnt be sure I could check that.

It really isn't a SP.  More or less, the application cross-referenced their internal database which likely resulted in the auto-decline.

Makes sense.

OP, so they closed all 4... Platinum, Gold, Schwab Investor and Everyday?

Yeah, it's unclear for how long you'll remain on their naughty list due to what the RAT team may have concluded for this particular AA.

On the plus side, at least no HP.

Yes sir, plus a Cash Magnet, Delta Gold and a BBP.

Ouchies.  I would definitely heed @K-in-Boston's advice.  Hopefully, the ban is not forever.

Will do. I hope so too, 10K points cost me 100k. Worst deal ever.

Re: AMEX relationship post clawback and ban?

My only experience was probably too long ago, 2014.   They closed the card (OBC) for abuse, I forfeited about $2000 in rewards (had I waited there probably was a way to get them), but they let me open another card the following month.   Others had more problem because their cards had a balance, but once they paid it off they were generally fine.

Now I think things have changed (and it made no sense at the time either!)

Re: AMEX relationship post clawback and ban?

In the self-referral clawback, was it normal for Amex to close all of a customer's cards?

I thought they only did full shutdowns when concerned about repayment, and that abuse (whether MS or S-R) only led to the closure of "tainted" cards.

How would Schwab get included?

There are co-branded cards issued by AmEx National Bank through its partnership with Charles Schwab, which include the Schwab Investor card as well as the Schwab Platinum card.

The same would apply for AmEx partnerships with brokerage firms such as Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, for instance.

I took the question to mean, "How was the Schwab card affected, since (AFAIK) referral links for the Schwab cards don't exist?"

Nevermind. Links exist.
