AU card use vs. non-use

Is it a good idea to put some type of spend on an AU card? Or does it vary by lender?

I'm an AU on PayPal Mastercard, but don't intend to actually swipe my AU card for anything, just utilizing the account for utilization padding purposes.

And vise versa, I have an AU added to one of my NFCU cards same scenario.

**Same household, same address reported to credit bureaus for both cards.

Curious on the feedback of this topic...

EDITED TO BE MORE SPECIFIC AND CLEAR: AU hasn't swiped or never used their card for an extended period of time, could that potentially have them removed from account?

As far as I know, it doesn't make any difference.  The statement balance is all that gets reported on your credit report and it doesn't matter who is making the charges (and anyone who pulls your credit won't be able to tell the difference).  I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong - or if a specific lender varies on that.

I get that. I'm asking in regards to whether or not the AU needs to use their specific card.

I don't believe non-use by the AU will result in their removal from the account.

My daughter is an AU on my NFCU Flagship for over 3 years now and other than a single charge when I initially added her  to make certain the card worked, there's been no other activity on her card with no problem as far as her retaining her AU status.

Re: AU card use vs. non-use

Nope, makes no difference.  The only thing that really matters is that somebody whether the AU or the cardholder is putting sufficient spend on the account to keep it from being closed for inactivity.

AMEX apparently can occasionally get irritated if an AU is responsible for virtually all spend on the account but I've never heard of Synchrony or NFCU caring one way or the other.

Re: AU card use vs. non-use

Had both my daughters as AU on several CU cards.   They never had the cards and were never used.

 No problems.
