Add 1-2-3 Rewards to a BOA Secured Card

Just added this to my fathers secured card by calling (888) 260-4696 . Just request the rewards be added....I am curious if other type of rewards can be added as I only asked to add the 1-2-3 rewards.

Re: Add 1-2-3 Rewards to a BOA Secured Card

This is nice!!! I called as well in regards to my fully secured card and the CSR I spoke to was helpful. She informed me that she was going to convert it to the 123 rewards card or put in the request. She did say that my old account would be closed and a new one would appear on my CRs. The history would remain on the card and would not affect the graduation cycle or process. Also she said I could choose between the regular rewards card or the cash back. I chose the cash back. I did not ask if there would be a credit pull since it appeared as all they were going to do is convert it. If there is a credit pull from them on my reports I will update this. Thanks!

Wow, how long have you had the card?  I'm past the six month on mine, if it doesn't reset the graduation clock, and there's no pull associated with it, I'm all over that card.  I was mostly planning to sockdrawer it after it graduated and I opened up a longer-term card at the end of the year, but if I can get even a trivial rewards package with it, it'd get promoted to pretty much solo card for quite a while.

Any information you guys could let me know would be extremely appreciated, thanks for posting this!

Re: Add 1-2-3 Rewards to a BOA Secured Card

I just got my card today and activated it with a rep. I asked about rewards and she said that the secured card can be PC'd to Cash 123, travel rewards or the basic. I didn't like that answer so I called the Backdoor number and spoke with an awesome rep in the credit dept. She gave me the option of converting my card to a MasterCard and even an Amex! So I PC'd to the accelerated rewards. No HP and she said I can do this as many times as I want. It will not effect your graduation time. I don't have an Amex yet and travel a lot so I figure it would be good to have.

She also said that the policy for PCing to a MC it Amex is new and very possible.

I'm frankly near speechless.  This is BOFA?  Their secured card was excellent before, but I think this might smash my old theory that NFCU was the best secured product around and BOFA was #2.  Going to have to call in July once I prune my balances and see if I can get what amounts to a PC out of the way for free.

Re: Add 1-2-3 Rewards to a BOA Secured Card

it sounds good and the 123 rewards program is pretty nice overall but i dont think i like the fact of them closing my current account and opening a new one as this would greatly affect my aaoa as its thin to begin with. when i called at the 9 month mark to unsecure the card they told me to wait till the 12th statement and that if i wanted to i can pc to 123 rewards but the 39 dollar fee would remain

Re: Add 1-2-3 Rewards to a BOA Secured Card

From what the CA said, they change your account number on your CRA. You keep everything exactly the same history but your account number changes on your cars and reports.

I think when they say "close" they mean the card(not account) so that old card is null and void.

Nah, Aloush's conversation with a CSR effectively nails down that it doesn't change the graduation term, so this request doesn't unsecure the card.

I'm still trippin' over the fact that BOFA (of all the major banks in the entire universe) is allowing it's secured card customers to add a decent rewards package onto it.  Tempted to just call in tomorrow and to hell with the balances on the accounts before they do away with this... NFCU and perhaps a few other CU's which I'm unaware of were the only ones previously who had any sort of rewards package on their low-end cards, and the BOFA 1-2-3 rewards package is well above the nRewards NFCU offers.

Thank you again for posting about it, what a fantastic offer to find out about.
