Here's the deal:
I was recently approved for the Chase Southwest with a 12k limit. I want to up my Freedom to 3k, or possibly 5k if they will convert it to a Visa Signature. I would be moving credit from the Southwest account. But I'm holding out in the hopes of an auto-CLI on the Freedom.
Question 1: Does it make a difference in your credit score if you have a 5 digit limit? Currently, 12k Southwest and 1k Freedom respectively, and would potentially be 10k 3k or 8k 5k. Do any of these make any difference score wise?
Question 2: The Southwest has not reported yet, so I want to move the line before it does. Will it look bad if it reports at 12k, and then once I move the line over it drops to 10k or 8k? Will FICO model assume this was a credit limit decrease?
Please help! All answers appreciated as I am stuck.
As for FICO, it doesn't really matter how you move them, since your overall utilization remains the same. You should move the CL to the card that gets more use though, to make it easier to manage and improve individual card utilization.
When you call Chase, you can ask if the will convert to a signature if you move $5k, if that is useful to you.

Would FICO model assume a CLD if it goes from 12k to 8k?
I've never heard of an assumption of a CLD and even if it did, it would be some type of negative score wise. Moving CLs with chase is a very common thing. I think you might be overthinking this.
but your other card would be reporting a $1k CL one month - and $5k the next, so even if they take this movement into consideration, it should be a wash?
@Shock wrote:yeah, it would be one high and one low limit, or two middle limits...hmmmm. i may be overthinking it..but i guess im wondering if one would look good over the other. and as i mentioned, im holding out the hopes of an auto-CLI, and then moving whatevers left to reach 5k.
Chase isn't known for their auto CLIs so you might be waiting a while on that one.
Responding to an old thread. I just got a $5K CSP and moved $2K CL from amazon via the CSP phone service. It was quick and easy. Now I have a $7K CSP, $1500 amazon and $1200 Freedom. All with zero balances, although the CSP is going to get a workout to get those 40,000 points and a trip to Arizona in March. Been here a month and have learned a lot...wish I was younger and not so deep in debt from an old house fiasco, better late than never!
