Advice on BT card, replacing AMEX

I have an Amex EDP card, that after using for a year, I am just not feeling it.   The 6% on groceries is nice, but its not enough to offset the yearly fee and I really dont like how long it takes to get the rewards. My other cards - Chase and Discover cover me most of the time at 5% and I use my Target debit for 5% a lot as well.

I want to open a new card and transfer the Amex balance to it - would I be better off going for another NFCU card or a different company, like Citi?  My lowest limit card is with Citi however I am thinking, they like Chase, might give me a higher SL on a new card than they did raising my old one.

I have the NFCU Cashrewards card at 30k with 10k CLOC - I may have maxed out there.

I have Chase at 29k, and just got an auto loan (through Mazda) this week Hasnt posted yet, but their system may know I have that loan.

What are some good suggestions?  I am not looking for rewards so much as a good term on BT.

Thanks for your advice!

Personally I like the Discover for BT.  Looks like you already have it in your wallet.  They always have good options, as good as any other card.

Re: Advice on BT card, replacing AMEX

I concur with the above: Discover generally has great balance transfer offers (assuming utilization isn’t an issue and looking at your scores, I imagine it isn’t) and Navy has the 0%/$0 fee offer through 02/28.

I’ll add one more with the Bank of America BankAmericard at 0%/$0 fee (first 60 days) offer for 15 months. My biggest concern with this offer would be you getting the SL you want but I’d have the same concern for most “balance transfer” cards. Anecdotally, it seems no one ever gets the SL they want when they intend to transfer a balance.

Cheers 🍻 to hoping you get what you want whether you opt for a new card or utilize your existing cards.

Re: Advice on BT card, replacing AMEX

Ajc, its at 22% - I planned on paying that down to 18% this month. Last few cards I received started me at 25-30k, so moving the $6400 onto a new card would not onky lower my overall util from 17%, but none of my cards would be over 18.90%.

I may spin the wheel and see what I can get. My scores can handle having my NFCU at less thab 50% and they are unlikely to overreact. Smiley Happy

Thanks guys!
