I just wanted to point out that currently the Chase Freedom Unlimited card is 3% cash back for the first year, for up to $20,000 in spending.  Since this is a fairly new offer no one yet knows what will happen after the first year, but certainly 3% on up to $20,000 in spending must figure somehow in your analysis.

I was left with the impression that after a year it goes back to the standard 1.5%

Considering that the deal has not been around for 1 year we have no clue what Chase will do. They have recently entered a creative zone where they are willing to completely shake up their offerings. Just at the end of last year they added contactless and now this. You never know if they make this a permanent thing with their cards as clearly they are trying to change it up and get more Freedom Unlimited card holders.

*fingers crossed*

3% + CSR would be insane! I don't see anyone else with such a comprehensive 4.5% back

Chase has a rather extensive card portfolio. Even the AARP card has 3% on Restaurants/Fast Food/Gas Stations with a $0.10 going to charity to support the hungry when you eat out on top of that. Makes you feel happy swiping for charity but really for the 3% back like everyone else.
