Airline MC or AMEX

Need one more card to add to my portfolio - either AMEX or MC (only have two CC right now, both Visa). Looking for cards with the best rewards... I'm based in Atlanta so Delta is the obvious choice, but they have an annual membership fee of $95!!!

If you traveled at least once a month the Platinum Amex would probably be worth the annual fee because of free bag and airport clubs and upgrades... otherwise probably not worth it.

Delta Skymiles by Amex is a great card. Since you live in Atlanta, this would be a great card. Amex normally pulls experian.  It is my favorite card!

+1

And if you DONT travel that often, but still occasionally, the Premier Rewards Gold is a fantastic card also. 3x points on airlines, 2x on gas and groceries, 1x on everything else. Pretty easy to rack up enough points to pay for the AF if you use it as a daily card.

Not to mention Amex's customer service.

Re: Airline MC or AMEX

I heartily recommend the Starwood Amex card which gives the most bang for your 45 buck annual fee (waived for 1st year). It's consistently voted the best card for travel rewards. For me, the best part is that they allow you to exchange your points for airline miles on a 1:1 basis, and we're talking many airlines. And when you transfer 20,000 points, they throw in another 5,000 into the trade. I just took advantage of that, and I got a real charge out of it! I'd cancel my 4 airline cards if it didn't mean losing a huge chunk of my available credit. I figure I'll put the saved points/miles Into whichever airline frequent flyer account I need to pad at the time.

The fee used to be 45. I believe its now 65 annually with first year waived for new accounts.

Re: Airline MC or AMEX

There are a couple of websites that post the latest CC bonus offers out there.  Citi was running two promos until recently for their American Airlines card.  75k bonus miles with a $1500 spend in 6 months (later up'd to $4000) and a 50k/50k bonus after you spent $750 in 3 months and then $10k in the first year on the card.  Continental and United (Chase cards) have 50k bonus mile promos out there too.  I'd google "travel forum" and check it out.

Re: Airline MC or AMEX

So I really don't want to pay an annual fee... I may end up just getting a card with no rewards and using it once a month to reflect usage... Right now I have

CU CC: $1000 CL

B of A CC: $2500 CL

REI CC: $8500 CL

All are Visa, so I really need something *different* and want to app sometime today before the inquiries hit... Citibank looks like they have some good MCs...
