AmEx Platinum Pay Over Time Select

Received this email from AmEx yesterday regarding my Platinum card:

"We're excited to tell you that we've added a feature to your account that offers a flexible way to pay your monthly balance - welcome to Pay Over Time Select. This feature is an addition to your account, so there's an advance notice period before you can take advantage of your new payment option. You will have full access to Pay Over Time Select on 11/07/2019."

Always PIF way before the due date, so I have no need for this.  Maybe they are pushing POT for all their cards?

Re: AmEx Platinum Pay Over Time Select

They've put me on it automatically but I am a PIFer.

There is a toggle switch in the online account to turn it off - I forget what page but its around your POT info pages.

In the account, look under Payment Options.

Why is it that I hear the Jaws theme when it comes to you two? Baaahahaha!!!!

And now for something completely different...

POT Direct is the only thing you need to worry about. POT Select moves things over $100 and doesn't charge interest until the next statement.

POT Direct starts charging interest on whatever amount from the posting date of the charge.

Select = Good

Direct = Bad... Very bad!!

Re: AmEx Platinum Pay Over Time Select

I had to go back and check a few of my last statements because I thought I made a terrible mistake. But six or seven months ago I enrolled into Pay Over Time Direct because they were offering 10,000 points to do so. I always pay in full the day before the statement date, statements are always $0 and have never been charged interest. So the Pay over Time Direct option doesn’t charge interest on cards immediately.

Re: AmEx Platinum Pay Over Time Select

No more chance to get the 10000 points if this happens automatically?

I must have misread it then... Maybe it's because it only charges it if the charges create a closing balance? Since you PIF before it cuts, maybe they don't charge interest?
