i called their 800 listed on their site one day to find out if i was a member since XXXX (out of the blue i realized one day that i did have an Amex account for about 2 months a long time ago)
CSR gave me this internal 1-800-327-2177 to contact (not front line so i supposed you could use it for your purpose)
btw sure enough they had my record and said all accounts would go back to original member since date/year
