I'm an AU on a amex plat, but they won't back date AU card even to the actual card holders date of 08'. I'm not ready to app and be declined for a zync, but think an optima card may not be a bad alternative.
You can call the Amex Oasis line at 888-232-3261 to see if you are eligible for the program. If not you should give Zync a shot.
