As most of you likely know and based on recent on my casual reads elsewhere, it seems Airline Lounge abuse is out of control. Most unfortunate for the real ticketed traveler that really could use a break from the masses and cattle like seating and treatment on airplanes. Smiley Frustrated

And this why I sit up front, no lines, all my flight changes are done at the lounge if needed and skip the cattle call for the masses.......The good news is that Delta lounges are less crowded after January change and AA should be after September 1.

This is a welcomed crowd control effort.

Re: American Express cuts Priority Pass Benefits

I think we all have different preferences, but I’d rather use my PP benefit at a restaurant with decent food than sit in an overcrowded lounge with a bunch of appetizers. You could actually do both if you have enough time to kill at the airport. Eat well first and then jam yourself into a lounge.
IMO, I find that the real value of PP is in the restaurants more than lounges. Before they started adding restaurants, I placed little to no value on the PP perk offered by premium credit cards, especially after getting 3 credit cards with PP. Now, I can get the most value from PP alone since I travel a few times a year with a family of 5, plus my other work trips, etc.
You have to be fortunate that your local airport has a PP restaurant, and there’s a pretty good steakhouse at JFK.

Re: American Express cuts Priority Pass Benefits

At CLT where the only PP is something called Minute Suites.

Mostly they sell sleep aids for travelers but they also have a few quiet little rooms. PP gets a one hour reservation and I think it's $28 per hour after that.

Long layover and you want a 5-hour sleep? That would run over $100 after exhausting PP. No food or drinks, just a quiet little room.

I know they have low capacity limits but their operating costs must be very low. It seems unfair that other lounges that provide more to customers get the same reimbursement.

But it is the only non-Admirals option AFAIK so maybe PP just wants numbers.

Re: American Express cuts Priority Pass Benefits

That’s pretty rough for anybody that isn’t platinum. PP’s stateside coverage just isn’t all that great as it is. I generally have little hope that they’ll add new lounges, so growth would need to come from the “all other” category. This would make me disregard that benefit when considering one of their cards.

I can see why it’s be abused, but you’d think they just put some common sense restrictions on it before axing it completely. “Limited to 1 restaurant visit per airport” would eliminate most of the abuse.
