Amex $150 mail in offer vs Amex $100 with 10%

Guys, so I got this mail in offer from Amex which is spend $500 in 3mo and receive $150 in statement credit.

but I also saw on the Amex website without that offer it's spend $1000 in 3mo for $100 and also you will receive 10%

at US restaurants for 6mo up to $200. Meaning I can earn a total of $300.

Which one would you guys think is a better offer?

Is the 10% capping me at $200 for 6mo do able? I do eat out a lot.

Fyi, I'm looking for a good cash back card. If you guys have any better ones I mind let me know.

Thank you guys.

I signed up last night and got $150 after spending 500 and 10% back at restaurants. Its kind of tricky to get the different offers to appear. Try different browsers, clear cookies, etc

@Fredd_e
The real question is, which I read in another post, will you eat out $2K worth in 6-months. That a whole lot of food and at expensive restaurants too. If yes, then you will earn the full, extra $200. If no, then the $500 spend in 3 months for $150 credit statement is better, IMHO.

Yeah I would take the $150 unless you plan to spend 2k at restaurants in 6 months.

Here is a pic of the offer i accepted yesterday.

If you try clearing cookies, incognito tab, different browser/pc you can probably get the $150/10% offer as well.Screenshot_2017-03-11-19-05-13.png

Re: Amex $150 mail in offer vs Amex $100 with 10%

The 10% offer is great for people who eat out a lot, but there's a lot of other ways to get 10% or more at restaurants.

  1. Costco, and I imagine other warehouse stores, sell lots of restaurant gift cards at a minimum discount of 20%.
  2. If you redeem Discover's cashback with gift cards, there are a lot of restaurant gift cards. They have a $5 discount for each card, meaning you get $50 cards for $45, and $25 ones for $20.
  3. BankAmeriDeals often has 10% or better cashback deals at particular restaurants.
  4. Heck, even Amex Offers has similar deals (yes I know you can double up on a restaurant's cashback if it appears on Amex offers within the 6 months).

Re: Amex $150 mail in offer vs Amex $100 with 10%

You are right. Except most dining establishments that have GCs available everywhere are CHAINS. I for one eat at many places that have no GCs available. Maybe the occassional groupon, but no GCs. So 10% is more than the 3% I would get normally.
