Amex 61 days from activation, not email approval

Well I reached the 61 day after email approval today (approved July 6 2012). Having conducted a little research beforehand I read on some threads (even on myfico) where people claim to have gotten a CLI 61 days after the email approval. I want to dispel that myth. I didn't get an increase just the "Our bank policy does not permit us to increase the line of credit on your account within sixty days since opening this account" electronic letter.

So now what, do I wait 6 months? Was it a hard or soft pull?

Hopes this helps someone else considering requesting a CLI 61 days from email approval.

Just wait a few more days until it actually has been 60 days, and then try again.  The request was never processed, so they didn't pull you at all.

You can actually call a CS rep and ask them how many days old your account is... sounds funny but they will answer you so that you know when to app the 61 day CLI.

I would do that but I've called Amex a lot since I had a problem getting my card in the beginning and I don't want to be logged in as a person who calls all the time lol

Re: Amex 61 days from activation, not email approval

Sorry to hear that. I know some people here have said that they got CLI 61 days after approval and didn't wait for 61 days after activation. But others have said that it's activation, so I erred on the side of caution and waited until 62 or 63 days after activation -- added a couple of days because of Leap Day this year.

If you can figure out around when you got your card and then count from that point and add a few days for extra measure, you could try again. I've read here that if you call in too early, you do have to wait the regular time period because you will have been denied the CLI. But it probably couldn't hurt to try. If it doesn't work, then you'll just need to count from that point until you try again.

BTW, statements aren't necessarily timed based on when you opened your acct., so I would not use that to decide when you call.

Re: Amex 61 days from activation, not email approval

I'm fairly sure it is 61 days after activation. For me, the time between approval and activation was about 8 days.
