I concur, and came to say this. I had a spending limit on my Amex Gold for...maybe 4-5 years? it felt like forever, but the reality is that many things in my credit report were preventing it from being removed. It came off few years back and i have since found myself nearly overwhelmed with pre-approvals and CLIs from other cards. I suspect it's possible it's not an "Amex" thing, but if you don't need the card that does settle it!
