Re: Amex Gold to Lose Airline Credit 2022

No idea why Amex won't treat these credits like chase. It's annoying as is using the dining credit now. All the restaurants here mark up their grubhub prices and good luck staying under the 10 credit. You'll end up paying the marked up prices and spend way over 10 even if you pick up.

Re: Amex Gold to Lose Airline Credit 2022

So during 2021, I get the $100 Airline credit, and the $10 per month Uber Cash, and the $10 per month GrubHub / Specific Restaurant credit on a card I can use for dining spend to get 4 points? And 4 points on Grocery? And 3 points on Airline tickets?

Sounds like a win to me.

CNBC is also confirming the update to $120 Uber Cash being added to Gold cards for 2021.

Re: Amex Gold to Lose Airline Credit 2022

Just saw the CNBC link. Seems like Uber Eat Pass is included for all three charge cards too. Catching up to Chase on their Doordash?

Re: Amex Gold to Lose Airline Credit 2022

12 months of an Eats Pass would be a nice plus.

I tried it for a bit but cancelled since I was no longer placing the 3-4 orders per month necessary for it to make sense.

Re: Amex Gold to Lose Airline Credit 2022

For me this has gone from a difficult to use benefit to a non-existent one. At least it will give me more ammo during my AF/renewal call with them next year. I hate to give up a 26 year old card, but $250 is not getting me much value.

According to this post in US Credit Card Guide, one guy in the comment section said that when he asked for retention offer on his gold card (cos he wanna cancel), a CSR wrote this:

American Express is partnering with Uber to bring the new $120 Uber Cash benefit to the American Express Gold Card. Starting in early 2021, Gold Card Members will receive $10 in Uber Cash each month for Uber Rides or Uber Eats orders in the U.S. That’s up to $120 in annual savings. Card Members will receive more information once the benefit is available.

$120 in Uber credit in replacement of airline incidental? Too good to be true I guess, but it would be a great great addition IMHO, if confirmed. Does anyone have any insight about this?

Hmm... very interesting.

Unfortunately it's only too good to be true for those who use Uber.  For some of us this will even be harder to use than the old airline credit.  Of course that's likely the point... breakage is good for the card issuers.

Yeah, this one is even more useless than the Airline credit for me. I almost never use Uber, only when I'm vacationing in large cities and want  a quick ride from/to the airport or local areas ouside walking distance. At least the Airline credit shaved off the fees they tack on when purchasing the Plane ticket. There's no such thing as Uber eats wehre I live, so if true I may end up canceling when the next AF comes up as I can no longer justify the expense on Gold with just Dining Credit alone.

Re: Amex Gold gets new monthly Uber credit+ All Charge Cards get 1 year EatsPass

Great news for me. There are a ton of restaurants near my office where I regularly order pickup and walk over to grab it, so between ubereats + grubhub credit my annual fee is mostly covered by my regular spend. The airline credit was still workable, but this is less of a headache.

I know Instacart counts as "supermarket" with Amex. Do Uber Eats and Grub Hub count as "dining"?

If so, that could be a fair amount of combined spend getting 4x...without having to worry about low spend caps (WWFCR) or transaction counts (EDP).

$250 AF

Less $100 (my personal valuation of $120 in Uber Cash, allowing for waste/Eats fees/higher Eats prices)

Less $60 (my personal valuation of $120 in dining credits)

=$90 net for a 4x dining/supermarket card
